A Grand Scottish Setting for Your Wedding Day - Balbirnie House, Fife
A Love Story Written in the Lab… and Sealed with a Sunset Proposal
Both Steven and Sarah began their wedding morning on-site at Balbirnie House Hotel, surrounded by their bridal party and loved ones. This stately country house offers stunning, spacious rooms that are perfect for pre-ceremony preparations — from meaningful letter readings to fun moments with bridesmaids and groomsmen. There’s something truly special about having both parties get ready under the same historic roof, creating a calm and connected start to the day.
A Humanist Ceremony in the Orangery
Their ceremony took place in Balbirnie’s bright and airy Orangery, a dream location for anyone planning a modern yet classic wedding in Fife. The couple chose a humanist wedding ceremony, led by the wonderful George McLean, which told the story of their love — a beautiful mix of humour, sincerity, and personal moments
Sarah and Steven first met during a university lab class in 2017. What started as a chance partnership (Steven, fashionably late in trackies and still recovering from a night out!) quickly grew into something much deeper. From their first date at an Italian restaurant to a tequila-fuelled Gouda night out, the two became inseparable. Years later, Steven proposed during a romantic seaside walk at Seacliff Beach, secretly captured by a photographer. Their love story, from lab partners to soulmates, had every guest smiling through tears.
Garden Portraits & Drinks on the Lawn
After the “I do’s,” guests enjoyed a relaxed drinks reception on the front lawn, with champagne flowing and laughter echoing across the grounds. Steven and Sarah took a quiet moment for their wedding portraits in Balbirnie’s stunning gardens, joined by their adorable dog, Pip, who made a very dapper guest! The natural greenery and classic architecture made for truly timeless backdrops — a dream for any wedding videographer at Balbirnie House.
Celebrations in the Ballroom
The celebration moved into Balbirnie’s grand ballroom, where a beautiful meal, moving speeches, and plenty of laughter filled the evening. Surrounded by loved ones, Steven and Sarah soaked in every moment — from heartfelt toasts to surprise stories and shared glances across the table.
As night fell, the party truly began. The incredible live band, Hot Date, kept the dance floor buzzing well into the night. From their romantic first dance to a full-on ceilidh vibe, the room was alive with joy, music, and pure celebration.
Steven and Sarah’s Balbirnie House wedding was more than just elegant decor and a stunning venue. It was a day full of personality, genuine connection, and the kind of love that makes wedding videography truly meaningful to capture. With nods to their shared love of art, gaming, travel, and even football, every detail reflected who they are as a couple.
