"One Day" Turned Forever — Jen & Ricky's Love Story

Some love stories are quiet and gentle, others are full of laughter and energy. Jen and Ricky’s story is a bit of both — rooted in shared values, balanced by their differences, and tied together by the constant refrain of “one day.”

Their journey began the modern way — on the dating app Plenty of Fish. Their first date took place in Le Monde, a lively bar on George Street in Edinburgh. It started with a slightly awkward moment (Jen offered a handshake while Ricky moved in for a kiss), but from that point on, their chemistry was undeniable. Jen was charmed by Ricky’s confidence, his sense of humour, and how effortlessly he made her laugh. Ricky was immediately taken by Jen’s beauty, fun energy, and warm presence.

From the very start, their relationship was filled with laughter, adventure, and a sense of ease — even if Ricky’s early diet mostly consisted of curry, pizza, and penne picante with extra cheese! Over time, they grew and evolved together, making space for each other’s quirks, strengths, and soft sides. They built a life they adore, one that revolves around fun, food, and their beloved pup, Bailey, who truly is the center of their world (and made a proud appearance on their wedding day!).

Throughout the years, one phrase kept appearing: “one day.”
One day they’d get a house.
One day they’d get a dog.
One day they’d get married.

There was never a question of if — only when.

Paris has always held a special place in their hearts, as it was the setting of one of their first big trips together. They wandered hand-in-hand through its streets, sat in cafés watching the world go by, and spent a magical day exploring the gardens of Versailles. So when they returned to Paris in 2021 for Jen’s birthday, Ricky knew it was the perfect place to finally turn “one day” into “today.”

After expertly hiding the engagement ring under a bottle of Irn-Bru to avoid being pickpocketed (a truly Scottish twist), Ricky waited for the right moment. In the quiet of Versailles’ gardens — filled with the scent of flowers that reminded Jen of her grandparents’ garden — he wrapped his arms around her and said, “You know how I always said one day…” And then he asked the question.

Jen’s answer? “About time!”

It was the perfect moment, but only one chapter of a much longer story.

From surprising Ricky with Champions League tickets in Madrid (despite football not being Jen’s thing) to marking their anniversaries with fireworks at Edinburgh Castle, their relationship has been a joyful blend of romance, thoughtfulness, and tradition. They make each other laugh every day, support one another through everything, and truly love just being together.

After years of “one day,” their wedding day finally arrived — full of meaning, emotion, and celebration. And now, Jen and Ricky stand side by side, ready to embrace forever.
